Membership

COVER has two types of membership: full and associate. All members can join our mailing lists to receive certain types of information relevant to them, and be able to participate in events and activities run by COVER. Members are in a prime position to find out about partnership and networking opportunities available at the regional level, both within the voluntary and community sector, and cross sectorally. Some members get very involved with our work and go on to become COVER representatives on various regional forums, as well as Board members.

Full membership

Full Membership is open to voluntary and community sector organisations operating within the Eastern Region who act as an umbrella agency providing support or advocacy for voluntary and community groups (if they have members, their members would be other organisations, rather than individuals). These types of organisations are often categorised as 'infrastructure organisations'. As well as umbrella bodies such as Rural Community Councils and Councils for Voluntary Service, we have members who are regional associations with local groups, and special interest coalitions and forums representing environmental groups, black and minority ethnic groups, disability organisations and so on. The Board will consider applications from informal as well as formal networks, although you must be able to demonstrate that you actually operate effectively as an umbrella.

Full members have voting and speaking rights. They are full members of the company for the purposes of the Memorandum & Articles (which means they guarantee to pay £1 in the event of the company being wound up and owing debts), and they can stand for, and vote for, membership of the Board.

Associate Membership

Associate Membership is open to individuals and organisations operating in the Eastern Region who actively support COVER's work. Associate members do not have a vote, but are entitled to receive notice of and attend and speak at general meetings of the company. They will not be counted as members for the purposes of the Memorandum & Articles i.e. they do not make the guarantee or count as members for the purposes of quorums.
