AIMER

erdf-logo.jpgOver the past decade there has been a steady flow of new migrant communities into western European countries. This project is funded by the European Union Regional Development Fund through the 'Interreg' programme, which is a community initiative focussing on cross border cooperation. This particular Interreg project is within the 4th phase of the programme (2007 - 2013), under strand A ('Cross-Border Cooperation').  For more information about the scheme click here (external website).

Our project focuses on the challenge facing local authorities and community organisations in integrating newly arrived migrants and also in enabling established ethnic minority communities to improve access to jobs and services. We are comparing existing approaches and identifying good practice in the delivery of local support services to ethnic minority communities. We will also design and pilot in cross-border partnership a series of new initiatives to achieve tangible progress in the improved integration of ethnic minority communities and stronger community cohesion between new migrants and their host communities.

Our partnership consists of local authorities and local community organisations directly involved in the integration of new and established ethnic minorities from the UK, France and Belgium. 6 partners are involved in the AIMER Project:

  • Medway Council (UK Public body)
  • COVER (UK Non-profit organisation)
  • Essex County Council (UK Public body)
  • Young Lives (UK Non-profit Organisation)
  • C.E.F.I.R (FR Non-profit organisation)
  • S.D.V (Flanders Non-profit organisation)
